The UBD Biosensors and Nanobiotechnology group is leading research with a foresight to develop new, low-cost, point of care biosensing and diagnostics platforms. Therefore, we are seeking to hire a full time/part-time Research Assistant with the expertise either on Bioanalytical/Biomedical Science or Data Analysis/Machine Learning starting from August/September 2024.

If eligible, the daily rate will be BND119.5, in addition to making contributions from the employer as per government regulation.

The Role of the Research Assistant should be but not limited to;

  • Carry out experiments and research related to bioanalytical and diagnostics, and/or
  • Conduct Machine Learning (ML) research to process analytical and bioanalysitcal data for the biosensor development, and/or
  • Perform ML to detect sensor performance variations in presence of any interferences, and/or
  • Analyze models to distinguish the signal from the noise and related
  • Assist in performing lab experiments and analysis
  • Assist in maintaining the research budget, inventories etc.
  • Assist in compiling and maintaining relevant documents
  • Assist in keeping records of the quotations, invoices, purchase/delivery orders etc.
  • Check facts, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory and liaise with faculty and departmental staff
  • Assist in other activities related to research group’s interest

Brunei citizens and/or permanent residents who possess a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Chemistry, Bioanalytical chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or Biomedical Sciences, or are in their final semester of BSc, are invited to apply. While prior experience and training in the handling of Nucleic acids, proteins, and/or nanomaterials are preferred (though not mandatory). Preference will be giver if the applicant has proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Python, R) and working knowledge of machine learning concepts and algorithms.

For the ML/Data Analysis stream, the candidate may have majored in computer science, information science, biostatistics, biomedical informatics or biotechnology, health informatics, applied mathematics, or a related discipline with programming experience in Python or R.  Moreover, the candidate should have the ability to communicate technical ideas in non-technical language.

Additionally, applicants should hold a valid driver’s license and be capable of commuting independently from home to the workplace.  Finally, it is expected that the research assistant will demonstrate compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by both the university and the laboratory/group.
