Your personal sphere of play:

We are committed to conduct excellent research in a motivating and intellectually stimulating environment. The Division of Microbial Ecology (DOME) is looking for a highly motivated University Assistant PostDoc (limited contract for 3 years) 

Your future tasks:

Your responsibility will be to cultivate and characterize novel nitrifiers using traditional as well as innovative methods ranging from the use of bioreactors to microfluidic devices. You will combine these efforts with molecular ecology tools like fluorescence in situ hybridization and meta-omics to track the enrichment success and to study the competition between different nitrifiers. Additionally, you will write scientific publications, disseminate results at national and international conferences, collaborate with members of the research team and assist in supervising students.

This is part of your personality:

  • PhD degree in biology or a related discipline
  • Experience of cultivation of recalcitrant microorganism and use of bioreactors
  • Thematically relevant publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Willingness to acquire new methodological skills required for the project
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of an international, collaborative research team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1) and German (B2).
  • Social/communicative skills
