About the Role

As the Research Assistant in Laser Threshold Magnetometry, you will undertake research activities in line with the University's research strategy. You will be expected to work with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop.

You will work as a member of an international collaboration on diamond materials for laser threshold magnetometry. You will need to undertake international travel, including to some of our partners in the US, Japan, and Germany. You will have demonstrated expertise on the optical characterisation of materials, ideally laser or diamond materials, or a commensurate skill set that can be applied to these tasks. You will be working in a team environment and expected to complement the existing research efforts and will prepare publications and project reports in collaboration with other team members.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Expertise applicable to the optical characterisation of diamond and/or laser gain materials.
  • Sound publication track record commensurate with experience.
  • Ability to work as a member of a research program involving a small team.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills enabling successful interaction with staff and students at all levels and non-RMIT personnel from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • High level conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills.
  • Mandatory Qualifications: Qualification in the relevant discipline area preferably at postgraduate level.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
