We are hiring a Designer to help with the design and delivery of a range of digital and print projects of all sizes across the Times Higher Education business. You will employ your obvious enthusiasm; design skill and creative insight to help develop high quality design solutions that support both internal and external goals.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Head of Design and other design team members to meet the wider THE businesses design needs.
  • Responsible for design production across a wide range of outputs e.g. logo designs; visual brand concepts; brand guidelines work; digital assets; print advertisements; video development; PPT decks; event stands; wireframing for product micro sites on the Shorthand and Cleverstory platforms; digital and print brochures; consultancy reports; infographics; email designs etc.
  • Managing your creative projects from initial brief to design approval, either independently or with support from the wider/senior design team, planning and prioritising tasks as necessary.
  • To ensure creative integrity and quality is maintained across all outputs, ensuring best practice is applied throughout the creative production process.
  • To work with brand & style guidelines – helping to develop these, additional brand toolkits and templates when required.
  • To ensure the audience experience is a key factor when considering all design responses, solutions and touchpoints.
  • To represent design at internal and, sometimes, external project meetings, with the ability to successfully present ideas to team members; designers (plus suppliers and internal/external stakeholders).

Person Specification

  • You will possess a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude and be a team player.
  • You have an excellent eye for detail and are always looking to produce high-quality creative work.
  • You can work effectively independently, or when collaborating with wider teams.
  • You have a good awareness of the latest technologies and design trends, with a view to how these may be harnessed to evolve your creative solutions.
  • You are keen to learn new techniques and work across new platforms when required; to explore and push your creative boundaries.
  • You are adaptable, responding well to the challenges working for a fast-paced, global business can sometimes provide.
  • You will have experience of and work well under pressure of deadlines, retaining a high level of creativity and output quality.

Skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level, or similar, in graphic design or a related subject and possess an obvious passion for design and communication.
  • Commercial experience in a relevant cross-channel, multi-platform design role, working on brand and style guidelines, campaign work, designing creative assests.
  • A great eye for detail and excellent design, layout and typography skills (applied across all channels).
  • Ability to work quickly, offering multiple solutions to a design brief.
  • The ability to plan your work effectively, while working across a number of projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate and rationalise your vision to inhouse teams (including senior management) and external partners, when required.
  • A very good understanding and knowledge of the art-working process for all channels (digital and print), with previous experience working on multi-channel, multi-platform campaigns.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign; Illustrator; Photoshop) and good working knowledge of Canva.
  • Experience designing for longform content platforms Shorthand and Cleverstory would also be a benefit.
  • A good working knowledge of After Effects would be ideal, as would the ability to create/edit short videos for web and social platforms.
  • A very good understanding of designing for Microsoft products (PowerPoint and Word).
  • Working knowledge of HTML and website CMS and how to best design within their frameworks would be a distinct advantage.
  • Previous experience of working across content for an international audience, with multiple language translations would also be beneficial.
